“Nice to meet you. So, what do you do?”
I hate that question.
I work at a minimum wage job answering the phones. But wait! There’s more! I’m a writer.
People react one of two ways:
1) Really? That’s so cool! What kinds of things do you write? I would love to read your blog/book.
2) Oh. Are you going back to college? Have you actually published anything? Well, your husband is planning to get a good job and support you, right?
Sometimes I want to tell people they’d better watch out or I’ll write about them!
(But then I remember that I’m not really that mean…)
(Working at home on my book with S’s fancy ice-cream-coffee)
It can be very frustrating sometimes.
I feel like I’m on the brink of achieving my goal and dream, but I’m just not quite there…
On the other hand, there are many lovely people in the world who have said such kind things to me. Some of them are strangers. Some of them are friends and family.
For instance, my favorite compliments on my blog are, “It sounds JUST like you! I can practically hear your voice as I’m reading it!” and “It’s so nice to read, happy, and fun. I enjoy reading it every day!”
Thank you to everyone who has encouraged me! It always, always helps.
I’ve been working very hard on my book. Last week, it just started pouring out of me. Parts that I had been stuck on were suddenly no problem. I really hope to be done with the rewrites and moving to the final editing stages very soon.
Exciting times, ladies and gentlemen!
For those of you who don’t know, I’ve been working on this book for 9 years. I started it in high school. It’s a fiction fantasy, the first of a planned trilogy.
It has grown as I have grown. The process of going back and making all the changes and rewrites has been excruciating. It has taught me far more than I could have learned by writing new manuscripts. It also helps that I am very pleased with my new work.
I hope to be seeking publication in early 2014. At the rate I’ve been going, it’s certainly looking possible.
